Poppy Factory 18th May 2018

A very informative visit. It started with a video and explanation of how the poppy appeal money is spent and who it helps. This was then followed by a tour of the factory with the chance to talk to a ex-soldier on how working in the poppy factory had helped him, there was also the chance to have a go at making a poppy one handed. This is a well worth visit for anyone and you do not have to be in the British Legion as it is open to one and all, all you have to do is get in contact. The visit was round off with a very good lunch at a hostelry about five hundred yards from the factory heading into town, with a view out over the river.

Royal Hospital Chelsea 2nd June 2018

Our second visit to the Royal Hospital Chelsea. On this visit we managed to have a tour of the dining area and also the chapel. Apart from being a home to ex-soldiers and soldieress (if that is correct for the passed members of the W.R.AC.), they are now excepting people who completed their National Service. As you will see there is a photo of their founder Charles II, who got the idea on a visit to France, each year they hold a full parade of all in house pensioners. The home covers all of the pensioners needs from the fit to the not so fit and all in between. As you will also be a wear the grounds also play host to the Chelsea flower show.

D-Day Service 6th June 2018

A shorten service to commemorate the 74th anniversary of the D-Day landings. It was a pity that only seven members could be on parade plus our padre.

Armed Forces Flag Raising 27th June 2018

Armed forces day once again brought together members of the Welwyn Hatfield council, ex-service personnel including the Legion Riders and cadets. It was a pity no one from the council could read out the Armed Forces Covenant.

National Arboretum 14th July 2018

This is the second visit the Branch has arranged a trip to the National Arboretum. It has improved its layout since I first went there soon after it opened and was presented with my Armed Forces Veterans badge, it was very hot on that day as well, I also managed to make the 11 o’clock church service well worth it. A well worth trip.

Remembrance Sunday 11th November 2018

The day started at about 0630 hrs with a lone piper playing on the balcony of Campus West (in the rain) well done to him and to the person who took the video. Once again the weather was with us by the time we formed for the parade sunny but with a bit of a cold wind. It was well attended by branch members, cadet forces, police, scouts, girl guides and brownies (if I have missed any group out please forgive me), there was also a large gathering who had come to join in the service. In the afternoon we again had a parade at the memorial at Hatfield Hyde again with a good attendance all round. After the service we retried to the church of Saint Mary Magdalene where we laid up the old standard and had the new standard dedicated (I would like to thank the two Air Cadets who acted as escorts to the standards a big well done) this was followed by refreshments (thank you to all involved with laying it on. If any person watching the video clip of the laying up and dedication think we got it wrong please feel free to attend the next branch meeting and I will explain it to them.
